Recently the Makai Team was invited on site, to get a first hand look at the progress being made on the Kukui’ula project. We toured the entire property, saw the progress on the only custom home under construction in the Mauka Collection at the top of the hill, toured the Makai Cottages which have several homes in the finish stages of completion and the tour ended at the Plantation Clubhouse which blew us all away! Seriously, the detail work is immpecable, the views take your breath away and the pool areas emerging from the construction make the Hyatt look like a wading pool!
Things have been relatively quiet in terms of their sales efforts. We learned that they are preparing to step this up substantially with the anticipated opening of the golf course in late December. Right now the base work is completed for the entire 18 holes, the first seven of which are actually playable and according to golfers I know who have been out there for a test round, it is “on par” with the best golf Hawaii has to offer without any doubt. With the relaunch, they alluded to some new pricing on existing inventory as well as the release of a new project called the Clubhouse Cottages located right on the boulevard leading to the clubhouse entry. These will be somehwat smaller, turnkey cottages, fully furnished with a guest house or garage option. Net air conditioned living spaces are approximately 1600 to 1700 square feet with another 1700 square feet (or so) of outside terraces and lanai. Unique to this offering will be a full service rental program which affords vacation rental guest priveleges at the Plantation Clubhouse and Spa facility.
Watching the Poipu market over the past thirty years as I have done, it is my bet that this Clubhouse Cottage product may very well be the most active offering they present this coming year. No pricing yet but in conversation they danced around numbers just shy of the $2m mark. I am already building a wait list for information as soon as I get it from them.
