The buzz on the hill, Hawaii State Legislature and Kauai County issues discussed with links to other resources
Just to keep us all on our toes, I woke up this past Saturday morning to the sound of civil defense sirens and my land line ringing with a Tsunami Warning wake up call compliments of the County of Kauai Civil Defense. I must say, the emergency warning system the county has instituted is amazing. From the lifeguards getting people out of the water to the police force politely but firmly evacuating the low-lying areas, it was like an orderly fire drill in grade school. I guess living through two hurricanes here on Kauai over the past few decades we have all been well trained to heed the civil defense advisories as they are issued. At a time when our local administration is being severely criticized for everything from fiscal management and land use to land fill selections, we certainly got this emergency warning thing down!
Kudos to the entire citizenry….we heard…listened and took heed to a very well communicated warning system. We send all our prayers and hopeful thoughts to all those in Chile who never got off as lucky as we did. Seems like a good time to count our many blessings.
